Training scholarships to match employee skills with employer needs

Retraining to acquire skills for in demand jobs is one solution for reducing unemployment. While it may seem as though no one is hiring, in fact there is sometimes a disconnect between the skills employers need and the skills workers have. This WorkSource Program, which is coming to an end, was funded by the The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

This seems like a good service designed to facilitate a rapid career change and reentry into the job market. It provides training and assistance tailored to the individual and the current needs of the job market. What was not provided in the video was an indication of the success rate of the program. If effective, such programs can help in reducing the unemployment rate. What this type of program cannot be expected to do is make a substantial contribution to the enhancement of the regional workforce.
